Winter Birds get Aggressive

It seems like it isn't just the British public getting a tad tetchy in the cold winter. The Daily Mail has provided photographs of a combative red-breasted robin getting lairy with another bird who dared to stray into his patch. The aggressive bird attacked its rival with a bird version of a karate kick and then disabled it by standing on its body until it was sure the message had been recieved. Robins, despite their cute Christmas card image, are highly territorial and have been known to fight to the death. They are also some of the tamest birds in Britain and are happy to stand close to gardeners so they can pick up worms disturbed by digging. During the winter months, and especially the "Big Freeze" currently chilling the UK, robins become even more aggressive as competition for food is higher. Read more over at the Daily Mail
